From Glasgow’s Docks to the Dram

To understand The Clydeside, you first have to understand the river.

For generations, the River Clyde shaped Glasgow’s identity. Shipyards, trade and industry transformed the city into one of the great ports of the world, with goods arriving from every corner of the globe along the docks of Queen’s Dock — now home to The Clydeside Distillery.

Alongside tea, tobacco, spices, and timber, Scotch whisky once passed through these waters, carried by merchants and dockworkers who helped build the city’s reputation as a global trading powerhouse. The rhythm of the docks defined the west of Glasgow for over a century — industrious, outward-lookingand deeply connected to the world beyond Scotland.

Today, while the cranes and cargo ships may be gone, that spirit remains.

The Clydeside Distillery was built within the restored Pumphouse at the heart of the former docklands, bringing whisky-making back to Glasgow’s waterfront for the first time in over 100 years. It’s a distillery rooted in heritage, but shaped by a modern Glasgow character — welcoming, vibrant and full of story.

That balance between tradition and progress sits at the heart of every whisky we make. 

The Clydeside Style

Our whiskies are created in a distinctly approachable Lowland style — smooth, elegant and fruit-forward, with clarity and character in every dram.

While each expression tells its own story, there’s a common thread running through the range: bright orchard fruit, gentle sweetness, delicate spice and a refined spirit character designed to be enjoyed by both newcomers and seasoned whisky drinkers alike.

Our core range reflects different parts of The Clydeside story — from the history of the docks themselves to the people and traditions that shaped Glasgow. 

Stobcross

Named after the historic Stobcross area of Glasgow, this flagship expression is deeply connected to the story of the River Clyde and the city that grew around it.

The original Stobcross House once stood near the route to Dumbarton Rock before making way for Queen’s Dock in 1875 — the beating heart of Glasgow’s global maritime trade during the industrial rise of the Clyde. Today, The Clydeside Distillery stands within the dock’s restored Pumphouse, continuing that spirit of innovation and craftsmanship on the waterfront once again.

Matured in bourbon casks, Stobcross captures the signature Clydeside style: smooth, elegant and fruit-forward, with delicate sweetness and a refined character shaped by time and tradition.

As the distillery’s first release, it remains a whisky rooted firmly in Glasgow’s history while looking confidently toward the future.

Typical notes: Orchard fruits with a hint of white pepper followed by fresh fruit.  

Napier

Matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks for over six years, Napier is a whisky inspired by one of the great innovators of the River Clyde.

Named after Robert Napier — widely regarded as the “Father of Clyde Shipbuilding” — this expression pays tribute to the engineer and entrepreneur whose pursuit of “quality, quality, quality” helped shape Glasgow’s reputation around the world. From pioneering iron-hulled steamships to record-breaking Atlantic crossings, Napier’s influence carried the Clydebuilt name across global trade routes throughout the 19th century.

The Clydeside Distillery stands directly opposite the site of Napier’s original shipyard, making this release a fitting tribute to the ambition, craftsmanship and innovation that once defined the river.

Rich and characterful while retaining the elegance of The Clydeside spirit, Napier brings layers of dried fruit, spice and dark sweetness shaped by its full sherry cask maturation.

Typical notes: Ripe berry, sweet rose, and tropical tones followed by orange marmalade, cherry, vanilla, and warming spices. 

Fortnight

Named after the brief two-week period each year when peated spirit is distilled at The Clydeside, Fortnight brings a new dimension to our core range.

Matured for over six years, this expression introduces gentle peat smoke while remaining true to the distillery’s signature clean and fruit-forward character. Carefully balanced and deliberately distinctive, Fortnight adds greater depth and complexity to the Clydeside house style without overpowering it.

A short and intentional moment of contrast within our production calendar, Fortnight reflects both precision and exploration — showcasing another side of The Clydeside spirit.

Typical notes: Gentle smoke, stone fruit and vanilla, followed by bright citrus, heather honey, warm spice and lingering peat. 

More Than a Distillery

The Clydeside is more than a place where whisky is made.

It is a continuation of Glasgow’s story — a connection between the city’s past and present, between tradition and modern craftsmanship, and between the River Clyde and the people who still gather beside it today.

Every bottle carries a little of that character forward.
